Iran Bullies us again

Diplomatic tension between Britain and Iran deepened yesterday with the news that Tehran is holding five British sailors after their yacht apparently strayed into Iranian waters.

This is not the first time British hostages have been taken by the Iranians, as recently a 2 years ago 15 British sailors were held hostage for 13 days, at least that time the Iranians could say it was a military type  vessel that strayed into their waters though that was not admitted by the the British who claimed they were in neutral waters, satellite pictures backed up the British version of events.

But this time its clearly a Yacht with a team of youngsters on board that apparently strayed a measly 500 yards into Iranian waters. The Britons were delivering the yacht to the annual Dubai to Muscat race, a 360-mile voyage through the Straits of Hormuz scheduled to begin the following day.

I suppose  we must now suffer the public humiliation of having our people paraded on TV, denounced as spies, and threatened with trials,  after all that and showing how toothless we are eventually releasing them.

We are viewed as such soft touches around the world, one more thing the Labour Government has done to this once great and proud Country is to extract  it’s teeth and remove its bite.

That’s why we are led by the nose in Europe to, having let France and Germany dictate to us for so long without standing up for ourselves.

Unlike in Maggies day when she struck the fear of god into Europe and the rest of the world when Britain was respected. We need another Thatcher, roll on May lets kick this spineless bunch out and give Cameron a chance. Maybe we can get some of the Great back into Britain.

Pity Gordon

For a change I am going to defend our Prime Minister Gordon Brown, he is on the receiving end of criticism for authorizing the attack on a Taliban hideout to release a British hostage who was being held captive there.

There are accusations that the British were heavy handed and used excessive force, how can it be deemed excessive force our troops were not up against boy scouts but murderous terrorists who have shown no mercy in the past, and have history of beheading hostages in front of the cameras.

In this action the hostage New York times cameraman  Stephen Farrell was rescued but sadly a member of the rescue team, a British special forces soldier was killed alongside Mr Farrell's Afghan translator, on the plus side scores of militants were killed.

It seems that the liberals in the media out there, in their desperation to criticise anything the British do have now deemed hostage rescue as an infringement on terrorists rights, maybe we should have let them know we were coming and given them a sporting chance of either moving the hostages or killing them.

Suicide bombers on a daily basis are killing innocent civilians amongst them children, this is not deemed heavy handed, these are “Freedom Fighters”. It makes me sick, lets forget all the rules smash them to pieces, whenever, and wherever we find them, Gordon Brown should take the gloves of our boys and say do whatever it takes to to win this war and we can worry about the consequences later, after all we are damned if we do and damned if we don’t.

Hostage Crisis

Two more Family’s were devastated this week after receiving news that  more hostages have been killed in Iraq, Alan McMenemy and Alec Maclachlan were the latest two from the original five kidnapped in 2007 to be reported dead.

The Family’s are reported as saying that the Government did not do enough in trying to secure their release, sadly this probably is true. But its clear that negotiation would only encourage further hostage taking, If it were a member of my family I would be screaming for the powers that be to do everything and anything to get them back, but ultimately would have to accept that this would only make things worse.

One more hostage Peter Moore out  of the original five  remains  in the kidnappers hands, let us hope for his safe return though that does seem unlikely now. I have commented  in this blog previously that maybe our citizens should be stopped from going to work in these trouble spots for their own good , I reiterate that desire again today.

Ban Rambo

It’s time the Government stepped in to save people from themselves, I am referring to the situation in Iraq, another two hostages murdered, and their body’s sent home to their families as some kind of macabre gift on fathers day. The latest two Victims Jason Cresswell and Jason Swindlehurst were both working as bodyguards in Baghdad for a reported £500 a day, now that is a fantastic wage, but is it worth your life, both men were fathers and now those kids will grow up without them. Times over here are tough and you cant blame men  looking to better their families lives by earning the kind of money they can over there. But like a beaten boxer who doesn’t know when to quit its up to our politicians to throw the towel in the ring for them. Simply do not allow any more family men to go to Iraq to work until the situation is stabilised. I know I sound like a wimpy liberal but I don’t care. If your a single man and want to go play Rambo that’s your choice, but if you have children and want to play , then you cant, I realise that there are thousands of soldiers out there that are family men , and the risk of kidnap and torture is just as real for them, but they are not as exposed or as vulnerable to this kind of crime as civilian contractor’s are.
