Kaka

So the transfer merry go round has started and started in spectacular style with Kaka going to Real Madrid for a record 62 million pounds  and wages of £200,000 pounds a week. I said it before and I will bore you and repeat it again its a nonsense how can any club pay that amount of wages to one player esp a club that has done nothing for the last couple of a seasons. do you they believe that Kaka alone will win them the league and champions league this season? well if he does then he is worth that money but I suspect  they will need to buy other players to and what do you pay them. OK maybe they will not all be on 200,000 but they will all be on huge wages that in turn will raise wages in other leagues. Where will that money come from. It can only come from one place the fan. But this is not a bottomless pit when the fan can no longer afford to support his team the gates will shrink.  The player is safely locked into his contract and gets paid regardless but the club then has to get into debt to keep finance the wage bill and that is when clubs start to go to the wall I wrote in an earlier post of the death of football see http://durdensview.blogspot.com/2009/06/did-football-die-today.html. And I see no reason to change my mind.

Did football die today?

It appears that Chelsea have bid in excess of seventy million pounds for Kaka. This deal cannot be allowed to go through. Where will it end is there a final number will it stop at eighty will it go to a hundred and how can a club recoup that kind of outlay without hitting the fans pockets. I Heard a caller on the radio say today reference that transfer. and I quote " LDV vans is on the brink of bankruptcy 5000 jobs are on the line 30 million pounds will safeguard that company and those jobs" unquote. is that not obscene. incidentally Kaka has been offered if reports are true ten million pounds a year AFTER TAX. not so long ago banks and financial institutions started to get out of control with lending with no checks made on them and look where they today. is football to go the same way. is this the day that football died?

 

Maradona

Argentina have scraped through to the World cup finals in South Africa next year, a late winner from Mario Bolatti gave the Argies a crucial 1-0 victory at Uruguay to finish fourth in the South American table and clinch an automatic qualifying spot.

A lot of British fans were hoping that Argentina would not qualify so that the competition would not be as great and England’s chance’s would improve, I don’t feel like that, the World cup is the greatest sporting spectacle in the world and teams like Argentina missing out devalue it.

I also happen to believe that Maradona will come good, his critics and he has many of them do not feel he is up to it, but for all his failings he has qualified, it cant be easy managing a national squad it’s not like day to day management where you get to spend all your time with your players, at best at international level you may get the players together for a fortnight in one go if your lucky, but more often than not it’s just for a few days.

As a player Diego Maradona had no equal, for  me he stands head and shoulders above any other footballer past or present, though there are current pretenders to his crown like Lionel Messi and Kaka even they fall a long way short of the great man, anyone who has followed Maradona’s career and saw him at the 1986 World cup will agree with my sentiments. That year Maradona was so awesome that he won it on his own.

No pundits give Maradona and Argentina a chance for the World cup next year, I am going to go against popular opinion and say that I think Maradona has one more  performance up his sleeve and think that the 10/1 on offer for them to lift the trophy is good value. Certainly better value than the measly 7/1 offered about England’s chances.

Owen and Fergie Top Team

What a masterstroke, the man’s a genius, the master tactician has stumped everyone again, this time with an outrageous move in getting Michael Owen on a free transfer and only paying him 50,000 pounds a week , I say only fifty thousand in context of the ridiculous sums being paid this season to the like of Eto’o, Kaka, Ronaldo etc. Whatever you think of Owen there is one thing you cant deny, the man scores goals, always has done at the highest level, in the past when people have tried to write him of, myself included he has answered in the only way he knows how by banging them in . When Capello overlooks him for England  when  fit, it is England’s loss, his goals  for England makes him the forth highest ever scorer for his country. In his debut season for Liverpool he finished joint top scorer, the following season  he was the leagues top goal getter. Between 1997 and 2004 he was Liverpool’s top marksman. After Leaving Merseyside he plied his trade for Real Madrid when they were a top side not the shambles of the last couple of years, he was used mainly as a sub but still managed 13 goals the best ratio there per minutes played. like I said the man is a natural. When he signed for Newcastle he started well then suffered a succession of injuries which kept him out for 18 months then returned to be once again  top scorer.  I may have jumped the gun a little by writing this because though personal terms have been agreed there is still the medical to get through, I hope he pass’s and Utd sign him. And I  bet he scores 20 plus goals this season. I would also hope that Eto’o completes his move to Utd rivals City and Owen trounces him in the scoring stakes.

It looks like my article backed by my massive following of 4 has  persuaded Kaka to think again about Chelsea and it looks like he may not come after all. Without blowing my own trumpet I take full credit for saving football as we know it in this country and possibly the world. excuse me while I put my arm up my back and pat myself there on a job well done.
