Gordon Brown

Gordon Brown last night denied widespread rumours that he could quit on health grounds before the election. He spoke out after former Labour Cabinet minister Charles Clarke suggested he should resign with dignity.

The denial was predictable but this is probably the start of a strategy  to prepare the ground for him to resign office,

The ill health story enables him to leave with some kind of “dignity” as it stands Labour would suffer a massive defeat at the elections in May next year, by dropping Brown party chiefs are hoping to minimise losses giving them a chance to regain power in the not to distant future. Leaving Brown where he is up to voting day and then suffering humiliating losses would keep labour out for possibly the next twenty years.

Brown inherited a host of problems the economy is an obvious one, but Immigration Crime and Education are all areas for concern, and there doesn’t appear to be any headway on any of them, in fact Immigration is worse and only last week we heard of spending cuts of up to two billion pounds in Education.

The simple fact is Brown was an ok number two but  is a long way from being able to lead, the sad thing from a Labour point of view is there is no obvious successor.

Nick Clegg - Call Girl

Nick Clegg is behaving like a high priced call girl touting himself out there looking for the best price, after 4 days of cosying up to the Conservatives he has now started flirting with Labour, none of this is about policies now its about grabbing every last concession the pathetic Lib Dems can before they are consigned back to the political backwater.

Finally David Cameron has had enough and said no more concessions, personally I would like to see another election called the Tories only lost by 16000 votes so a swing of 1.8% would be enough to see them win with a clear majority.

But Labour in their desperation to cling to power look like they are about to flop on their backs and let Clegg do what he likes, this would be a disaster for the Country even some senior Labour figures have their doubts about a successful coalition.

Brown has finally offered his resignation but astonishingly wants to remain leader for another four months before he finally leaves, this is beyond ridiculous , how can the Country function with a lame duck leader for so long, I think his own cabinet will turn on him and he will be gone within a week.

So fun and games for the moment while British politics descends into farce in the eyes of the world, after 13 years of a Labour government the last 3 years with an unelected leader we cant even change Governments properly.

Let us hope that sanity prevails and Clegg slips back under the covers with Cameron and we can get the Tory lib marriage under way, not sure how long it will last and how happy the couple will be, but its better than what we have now.

24 hours is a long time in politics

That was an almost exciting 24 hours in politics when it was thought   their may be a Leadership contest in the Labour party, but anyone who knows anything about politics knows it will come to nothing.

This is Geoff Hoon and Patricia Hewitt, former cabinet members making a little mischief for the Prime Minister, party members have no stomach for a leadership ballot now,  let alone a secret one.

Changing leader would involve a complex ballot of unions, MPs and grass roots party members, Twenty per cent of Labour MPs would first have to vote for change and it would take at least six weeks.

With a general Election looming in May it would be political suicide for them try to change leaders now whilst at the same time running a re-election campaign.

My own opinion is that it wouldn’t matter who the leader was the Country are sick to the back teeth with the Labour party and the Tories will be in power, short of Cameron being caught killing and eating babies between now and May , He will be Prime Minister.

Hung Parliament

I cant believe that the majority of pre election polls are forecasting a hung parliament, I disagree and predict that the Conservative party will win decisively.

People polled on the street are more likely to say what they believe their asker wants to hear then their true intent and  this is doubly true if there are others within earshot, so once again the polls will be wrong, policies aside common sense tells us it will be a Tory win.

After 13 years of Labour turning this once great country into the mess it is now the British public will not allow Brown to continue, look at immigration look at crime look at the economy, three huge nails in the Labour coffin, so we look for an alternative there are only 2 to choose from, and of the two Conservative looks the only pick, before people can take the Liberals to seriously they need to toughen up, tree hugging is okay for running a commune but not  a nation.

The Liberal leader Nick Clegg has no substance, apart from a short stint working for Leon Brittain in Europe and he only got that job because of his language skill ( he speaks 5 Languages) Clegg has never had a proper job, his family’s wealth has isolated him from life’s real problems, that’s why he spouts such nonsense as giving up our nuclear capability, Clegg has always been protected from the bogeyman, so he has no idea that bad people exist in the world and that we must protect ourselves against unstable elements like North Korea and Iran.

So disregard the Liberals to, a comfy win for the Tories, lets hope our confidence in David Cameron to make a difference  is justified and we can begin to see our once great country rise up again. incidentally I fear the last 13 years of our open door policy on immigration will also register at the polls with big gains for the BNP and such. Don’t waste your vote, Vote Cameron.

Blame labour

A 60 year  old grandfather  died of a heart attack because the paramedic sent to the scene waited outside his house for 16 minutes doing a risk assessment before entering the premises. Roy Adams a chauffeur called for help when he started to suffer chest pains and shortness of breath as he was alone at home he was told  by the operator to leave the front door open so paramedics could have easy access, the first man to arrive at the scene saw the open door and fearing  a burglary in progress would not enter, he then started his risk assessment, by the time this was completed and back up arrived it was to late and Mr Adams died. Now I’m not sure if there is blame to be apportioned here, or was it unavoidable because of the lawless and violent times we live in, but what a world when medics are fearful of entering houses whilst responding to 999 calls. In the last dozen or so years the general fabric of this country has been in decline, since Labour came to power things have gone from bad to worse, under Blair the criminals became a priority over the victims to such an extent that we have no real deterrents anymore. Why would anybody be scared of prison, laptops in cells, satellite TV, three square meals, medical care with no waiting lists. The worst thing Labour done amongst many bad things was to adopt the ridiculous human rights bill in its entirety, because of this bill Blair encouraged by his wife “coincidentally” a highly paid human rights lawyer sold this country down the river. I can remember seeing a photograph of Wembley in the 1950’s hosting a F A cup final a 120,000 people crammed in with fans almost up to the touch lines, being kept in check with a handful of policeman, how we yearn for those days back.

Our Joke Government

Twenty percent of all manslaughters and murders  in this Country last year were committed by foreigners, that’s 20 in every 100. and last years total was 371 with the Poles top of the offenders list, closely followed by Lithuanians, Somalian’s and Sri Lankans. And many of those convicted had previous convictions for violent crime in their native Country’s, and most if not all of those convicted were in Britain legally.

How are these people able to waltz in to our Country unchallenged, I could understand if they had sneaked in, which given the way our borders are protected is not to difficult, but no, they are coming in through normal channels.

Other Country’s and I will use the States and Australia as examples make it very difficult to gain entry if you have any conviction, and impossible if you have a conviction for murder or manslaughter, so why do we just roll over and accept anybody.

Well the simple answer is that old bugbear, The Human Rights Act, we are the only Country that adhere to the rules, we have an almost religious devotion to it, and when I say we I of course mean our pathetic excuse for a Government.

Other Nations cherry pick the best bits and blatantly oppose the bits they don’t like, but at least they work in their own national interest unlike our politicians who have no backbone, they have demonstrated this many times, most recently with the Libyan Bomber, I cant imagine any other civilised Country releasing a mass murderer with 270 deaths to his credit after a paltry 8 years in exchange for friendship with a dictator and ultimately oil.

Labour are in power and we cannot do anything about it until next May when Gordon Brown will have no choice but to face the Country in an election. I am happy to state now for the record that Labour will be crushed, completely annihilated at the polls, and it could be many decades before they will be trusted with power again. Lets Pray its not to late to salvage our once great Country.

Europe, A Powder Keg

Race riots in Italy threaten to get out of control, in the Midlands we have had consecutive weeks of  demonstrations in Luton and Bedford, by BNP supporters on one side, and anti Fascist’s on the other culminating in violence on our streets, 12 months ago in Roquetas del Mar in Spain riots erupted there after the death of an African immigrant.

I could go on with examples but you get the pattern Europe  is beginning to become a cauldron of resentment and hate, since the EU was founded and borders opened, migration has exploded, sadly a proportion of people moving from Country to Country are not the model citizens you would want, but rather the low life's and criminals that have no future in their own places of birth, so they are transporting their misery to others.

The freedom to just move from Country to Country was always going to be exploited, and even the most liberal and welcoming Nation would start to feel resentment as the “foreigners” came in and started to take their jobs by working for less pay, in this Country our builders have felt the brunt of it as cheap labour has all but forced the British Labourer out of the market, never mind that quality of the imported labour is not as good.

The European Union of today is the result of a process that began half a century ago with the creation of the European Coal and Steel Community. Those two industries then still provided the industrial muscle for military power, France and Germany formed the union really as a means to make sure war could never happen between the two Countries.

The other four founder states (Belgium, Italy, Luxembourg, and the Netherlands), also saw the new Community as a means to ensure peace by binding Germany within strong European institutions. For the most part they too, like the Germans, saw the Community as a stage in the development of a federal polity and have largely continued to do so.

If the union had stayed as that, “Just a business arrangement” with peace thrown in as a perk it would have been a fantastic creation, but we have unelected faceless people in Brussels with this desire to mix the whole of Europe so much that no Country has an identity left, and this is where  the problems start,we are all basically to different, its fine to visit each other for a couple of weeks a year, and broaden each others horizons, but to live with each other peacefully you need to embrace each other culturally..

To go live in a Country and not embrace their way of life , to settle in a community then shut yourself of and stay with your own kind, to criticise your hosts way of life, and then to try to make them adapt to yours, to encroach on each others houses and job’s, burden each others  health services, take advantage of  other more generous benefits systems, these are the causes of the unrest across Europe.

Sadly I don’t know what the answer is the EU is to big a beast to control it’s rules and laws are like a juggernaut running downhill with nobody at the wheel, but what I can tell you is that when it does hit the wall at the bottom and it surely will the resulting bang will be heard all over Europe.

Iran Bullies us again

Diplomatic tension between Britain and Iran deepened yesterday with the news that Tehran is holding five British sailors after their yacht apparently strayed into Iranian waters.

This is not the first time British hostages have been taken by the Iranians, as recently a 2 years ago 15 British sailors were held hostage for 13 days, at least that time the Iranians could say it was a military type  vessel that strayed into their waters though that was not admitted by the the British who claimed they were in neutral waters, satellite pictures backed up the British version of events.

But this time its clearly a Yacht with a team of youngsters on board that apparently strayed a measly 500 yards into Iranian waters. The Britons were delivering the yacht to the annual Dubai to Muscat race, a 360-mile voyage through the Straits of Hormuz scheduled to begin the following day.

I suppose  we must now suffer the public humiliation of having our people paraded on TV, denounced as spies, and threatened with trials,  after all that and showing how toothless we are eventually releasing them.

We are viewed as such soft touches around the world, one more thing the Labour Government has done to this once great and proud Country is to extract  it’s teeth and remove its bite.

That’s why we are led by the nose in Europe to, having let France and Germany dictate to us for so long without standing up for ourselves.

Unlike in Maggies day when she struck the fear of god into Europe and the rest of the world when Britain was respected. We need another Thatcher, roll on May lets kick this spineless bunch out and give Cameron a chance. Maybe we can get some of the Great back into Britain.

Knife Culture

As more and more  teenagers see carrying knives as the norm it is time for the government to do something decisive no more fancy gimmicks  amnesty's or footballers telling them its uncool I mean something  practical. Drastic times call for drastic solutions. I think the time has come for national service to become a reality. Teaching discipline  instilling values and restoring pride into today's youth has to become a priority. How many more kids have to die before our leaders wake up. With  unemployment at 2.2 million as of march this year and predicted to hit  three million by years end  here is a chance to attack two problems simultaneously, crime and unemployment both would benefit from this initiative. with our armed forces caught up in two wars albeit Iraq coming to an end peacekeeping duties around the globe have stretched us to the limit. with a prison population in excess of 74000 and rising the arguments for urgent action could not be more valid. 12 years have of a labour government have seen our courts rendered toothless with paltry sentences  for even the worst of crimes.  last year 29 teenagers were knifed to death in London alone. this year already we have had 10000 arrested and 5000 knives seized nationwide and we are only midway through the year. as a parent and grandparent I fear for the future lets hope, no lets demand that the next government act.

Great Britain?

Britain drifts further into debt with each passing day the cost of our membership of the European union is astronomical, estimates put it at about a thousand pound per head of our population.

Hard figures  of the true cost of the EU are difficult to come by. MPs have called many times for a cost-benefit analysis, to prove or disprove the benefits of membership. Successive Governments, both Labour and Conservative, have refused, on the grounds that the "benefits" are self-evident. In truth they are afraid of what such a study would show. The Bruges Group have  produced an authoritative study.

£28 billion for business to comply with EU regulations,

£17 billion of additional food costs resulting from the Common Agricultural Policy

£3.3 billion - the value of the catch lost when the Common Fisheries Policy let other countries fish in our territorial waters

£14.6 billion gross paid into the EU budget and other EU funds.

That is about £65 billion, its a mind boggling amount, even allowing for our rebate which they want to stop, what we could do with that money rather than hand it over to a faceless entity that quite frankly we would be better of without.

Used better, this sum could transform the UK - increase pensions, recruit more doctors, nurses, teachers and police, build advanced transport systems and start paying off the national debt.

The total budget for EU 'administration' alone is £34 billion. The European Commission claims on its website to employ 25,000 staff. The true figure, according to an Open Europe study in August 2008, is 170,000.  Nearly 10,000 of these receive over £54,000 pa - over twice as many as in the whole of Whitehall.

Britain's new EU Commissioner,  will get £750,000 for just one year's service - including £200,000 in salary, £250,000 in "transitional payments" on leaving the post, and a raft of perks. He/She will also get an annual pension of £8,000 pa for one years service - twice what a UK pensioner gets for a lifetime of work.

Will we ever produce a leader or a party with the sense and courage to take us out of this “club” We are not and there is no need for us to be wholly dependent on Europe for trade, we have the rest of the World to deal with, were we  to be blacklisted by the remaining members for  pulling out.

Other benefits would include the pulling out of the human rights bill in its entirety and the return of English laws, Laws that have sustained our Country for hundreds of years Laws passed by elected officials elected by us the British people. finally to curb immigration, give our Judges back the powers to send criminals to prison for lengths of sentence that will make them think twice about committing crime, allow us reclaim the streets from the thugs and drunks that currently own them.

Fanciful if not wishful thinking you may say but why cant these things come about, is it to late for Britain, can we only slide further into  the abyss, I say its not to late there is just about time for a u-turn, its up to us find this leader and back him and make Britain Great again.

Great Britain has a ring to it.

Great Britain. lets make it so again.

Still here Gordon?

Gordon Brown is flailing around like a man drowning but in his case no lifebelt will be thrown. Its actually quite pitiful to watch. It appears he is happy to take the party down with him rather than fall on his sword. How many more resignations does he want or can the party withstand before it implodes. Labour have just had their worst showing in local elections ever they don't control one county council now. Watching him on Sky news yesterday he looked and sounded like a dead man walking but kept on with  his usual sound bytes "getting the job done" falling back on "in For the long haul" and everybody favourite "the right long term decisions". Unfortunately for Gordon though there is no long term for him only he cant or wont admit it . They say a week is a long time in politics and he is about to find out how true the old adage is.

Liar Liar Pants On Fire

Gordon Brown was accused of double dealing last night after an official document emerged claiming that Libya was told that he wanted the Lockerbie bomber to die a free man.

The disclosure threatens to undermine the Government’s determinedly neutral stance over the release of Abdul Baset Ali al-Megrahi.

Will Gordon Brown do the decent thing and go, after all how can we trust a Prime Minister caught lying, resigning would be the honourable thing to do, but sadly Honour isn’t a word our politicians can readily identify with.

No,  we will have to drag Gordon  shouting and screaming out of office next May when Labour as a party will be sent back to the Political dark ages.

Election Debate Conclusion

Having now seen the rest of last nights live election debate, it has served to reinforce my belief that David Cameron is the only real option come May 6th, Gordon Brown did not perform particularly badly last night but as well as he could perform you would still put the last 13 years down to Labour, and who wants 5 more years of the same.

It was particularly galling listening to him claiming that our armed forces were so well equipped and that Senior military commanders had told him it was the best they had ever had it, when all we the public seem to see in the media is soldiers and officers alike crying out for more equipment.

Clegg you could pick out of a line up as a liberal, his wishy washy ways are not suited to running a Country, for heavens sake in the worst period of the World’s history where Rogue nations are  trying to develop nuclear capabilities and by capability we all know it means weapons, Clegg wants us to give up our nuclear deterrent,,

I had to laugh at his proposal for criminals to stand in front of their victims and apologise, I’m sure rape victims are happy about that one,  incidentally I wonder how long a day he spends in front of the mirror practising his ridiculously theatrical hand movements.

I stand by my assertion that Cameron is the only viable choice at the moment, he talks a lot of sense, don’t be put of by his “toff” look, of the three candidates he is the closest to the man on the street.

Terror Threat

Britain's terrorist threat level was raised last night from “substantial” to “severe” - meaning that counter-terrorism agencies believe an attack is “highly likely”.

But at the same time the Government urge us to go about our lives as normal “just be a little more vigilant” they say, vigilant for what, what exactly are we suppose to be looking for, this raising of the the threat level is said to not be based on specific intelligence warning of an attack,  but rather a combination of factors, what factors?

Severe is one level away from the highest which is “Critical” that means an attack is imminent, that would suggest that the Authorities know the detail of the plot otherwise how could they know it was happening, so why not put all their energy into stopping it rather than these stupid warnings to the public that are no use other  than to cause panic.

My understanding is that this latest scare was prompted by “intelligence” that  a hijacking of an Indian airliner in either Mumbai or Delhi was planned with the aim of flying said airliner into a British City, How exactly we as the public are supposed to prepare ourselves or “watch out” for that I’m not sure, surely increased security and vigilance at Mumbai and Delhi airports would pay more dividends.

After the July 7 bombings in London  the threat level stayed at severe for 4 years,  it was on severe for so long we got bored and the Government reduced it, I suspect this new warning is more likely be a ruse by the  politicians to divert out attention from something else that is about to be announced, or Just Gordon trying to scare us into voting Labour at the upcoming election by showing how well he can protect us from all the nasty terrorists out there.

Bill Clinton

The Americans have sent former President Bill Clinton to North Korea to negotiate the release of two US citizens sentenced to twelve years hard labour for straying into North Korean Territory. They happen to be two young attractive girl reporters, given Bills reputation I think the girls are safer in prison.

Swine Flu A pigs Ear

Remember my piece about the how the Government exaggerated the Swine flu outbreak http://durdensview.blogspot.com/2009/07/swine-flu.html

Well now the Government admit that they exaggerated and have been left with a £300 million pound bill for a vaccine that they will never use.

Ministers had ordered 90 million doses of the vaccine, though we are a population of less than 70 million.

If you will excuse the pun, they have made a pigs ear out of the whole thing, they say the pandemic “failed to materialise” I’m not sure if that is enough of an answer to a waste of three hundred million pounds of taxpayers money but it’s what we have learned to expect from Labour.

Roll on May the 6th so we can kick these losers out.

Un-hung Parliament

I am surprised I was so wrong on the mood of the British public regards Gordon Brown, how did so many people keep faith with him, this tells me that lots of people take no notice of policies but vote the same way they have voted all their lives.

if Labour had been judged on the last 13 years I don’t believe they would have even finished in second place in number of votes cast, still I was spot on about Clegg being exposed as the wishy washy tree hugger that he is, I’ll settle for that for now.

Even though it has finished as a hung parliament I still believe Cameron will be moving into number 10 by the end of next week, he may have to get into bed with Clegg to oust Brown but it will be a marriage of convenience and Clegg will soon become an irrelevance.

Cameron should call Election

There will never be a better time for David Cameron to call an early election guaranteeing himself 5 more years than now, With “Red” Ed Milliband the union stooge winning the Labour leadership contest and the IMF endorsing Chancellor George Osborne's plans to cut Britain's record deficit to nothing within 5 years, he will never be in a stronger position.

War On The Cheap

I am a believer that we should be in Afghanistan and that the mission there is worthwhile, that part of the world left to its own devices would be overrun by the Taliban and Al Qaeda in no time and then the enemy we face would have the resources of a country, a state next door to Pakistan a mess of a County crammed full of nuclear weapons. So we really do have no choice, but it is criminal that our armed forces can be sent into a warzone ill equipped. The last two weeks have seen us take huge loss’s 15 dead and up to fifty wounded some losing limbs, war as we know is a dangerous business and soldiers will be killed and injured and troops are aware of this when they sign up, but we should be looking to minimise this risk anyway we can. In a straight fire fight our troops will defeat the Taliban every time so their preferred method of attack is using IED’s these are improvised explosive devices, hidden bombs planted on roadsides in buildings even under dead bodies, this weapon has caused by far the most deaths and casualty’s. We can eliminate a big part of the dangers they face everyday by giving them the correct and the right amount of equipment. Helicopters would give our troops more freedom of movement in safety, but in typical fashion this Labour Government, unbelievably to save money are not doing so. yesterday in the commons Gordon Brown blatantly lied when he said Helicopter numbers had increased by 60% in the last 2 years, and that capability had increased by 84%, when sources in Helmund said they were at their lowest for a year. In may our whole fleet of Lynx helicopters were sent home leaving just 13 amongst 9000 troops. I know that this kind of equipment is expensive but let’s get our priority’s right in 2008 we gave away 7.8 billion pounds in foreign aid, already this year we have spent hundreds of millions of pounds on legal aid for illegal immigrants fighting to stay in this country, millions more on interpreters for these people, anybody who sets foot on these shores is entitled to housing and benefits. So let us pressure our MP’s  to do what it takes no matter what the cost to  make sure our troops are  sent into battle with whatever they need.

Election Debate

I’m embarrassed to say I missed the live showing of the first ever live televised election debate this Country has ever had, but I have almost caught up with a recording of the show and am now just   a little behind as I have not watched it in it’s entirety.

I did however see the part on immigration and give the first round convincingly to David Cameron, a blind man can see we need a border police force and he is the only one advocating the need, the other two kept harping on about inward migration without really appreciating inward migration isn’t the real problem but illegal migration is.

Clegg’s regional only policy on immigration was laughable, according to Clegg once an immigrant comes into a region to fill a  job vacancy he is then not allowed to leave that region, how does he propose we enforce this, give each migrant their own policeman to monitor them 24/7?

Brown claimed the Labour policy of giving foreign nationals ID cards that they then  had to produce before they could work in this Country was effective, effective he claimed  because employers ran the risk of huge fines for employing workers without said ID cards, but he neglected to offer any information on whether there had been any instances where any action had been taken against any employer for doing so, I suspect none had or Brown would have trotted the statistics out, one thing about our Gordon is he does love a statistic.

So round one to Cameron in a convincing manner, I will offer my opinions on each part of the debate as I watch it, hopefully I will have caught up with the rest of the nation in the not to distant future.
