Comedian Sacha baron Cohen is having to review his security after receiving death threats from a Palestinian based terror group, the Al-Aqsa Martyrs issued the threats after Cohen ridiculed them in his latest film Bruno.
In the film Cohen interviews the groups leader Ayman Abu Aita who believes the interview is a serious one and does not realise he is being sent up.
References are made throughout the interview to Homosexuals, Saddam, and Moustache’s all while trying to persuade the group to kidnap him, insisting he only wants to be held hostage by the best terror group around. Now while I don’t have any sympathy for the terrorist group involved here, the references to them in the film are actually very funny, nor do I have any for Cohen who is a highly intelligent man and knew what he was doing when he set this group up for laughs.
After his previous film Borat was released he had to defend against over 200 lawsuits around the world, and some serious threats of violence from Kazakhstan nationals who felt he made them look like backward peasants in the eyes of the world. But in this day and age and in the current climate it was reckless in the extreme to think that he could get away with attacking the leader on screen before the whole world of one the worst terror groups in the Middle East.
Cohen is already a very wealthy man and did not need to act so foolish to get laughs, what’s the point of being so rich if you spend the rest of your life behind locked gates. With the Kazakhstan threats he smoothed it over with a apology and some sizeable donations to Kazakhstan charity’s, how he charms killers and suicide bombers I don’t know.
