The family of the six-year-old at the centre of a runaway balloon scare are facing criminal charges after the boy's parents Richard and Mayumi were re-interviewed by Colorado police on Saturday.
I was surprised that the American press fell so easily for this obvious hoax, I remarked to my wife as we watched the “drama” unfold live on Fox, that this did not “smell” right. And now after reading about the Family and the fathers obsession with fame it looks like I was right.
If it is Proven to be a hoax I hope the punishment doled out to the gormless Richard and Mayumi is sufficiently severe enough to deter other potential hoaxers, once that balloon was released it could have come down anywhere and could easily have killed people on the floor not to mention the dangers to the emergency services chasing what they believed was a trapped six year old.
That the problem with our society people will do anything for 5 minutes of fame, because these kinds of stunts make the perpetraors rich in a very quick time, magazines papers TV everybody wants to buy your story, no wonder so many hoax’s take place, that’s why its important to make the punishment fit the crime to deter others.
