Piracy

Somali pirates demanded a $7 million ransom last night for the kidnapped British couple Paul and Rachel Chandler. It was the first time that a figure had been mentioned since Mr and Mrs Chandler were captured on board their yacht off the Seychelles a week ago.

A spokesman for the pirates said that the money was only a “little amount” and would compensate for the seizures made by international anti-piracy patrols. Why on earth do the authorities entertain this kind of crime, we are living  in the 21st century and piracy should have been wiped out long ago, with modern technology and weapons a few peasants in a boat should not be able to hold Countries to ransom.

The Chandlers are British and the Government has a duty to try and get them home safely this however does not extend to paying a ransom, when you set of on an adventure on the high seas as they did you pays your money and you take your chances.

A better and more permanent solution would be for the Royal Navy to go in all guns blazing with an attempt to rescue the couple I understand the dangers but according to the Pirates they will be killed anyway if the ransom is not paid, and the British Government has reiterated again today it does not pay ransoms. So lets blast these savages out of the water and destroy their bases and send them a message that Piracy will be dealt with this way every time British subjects are threatened. They will soon get the message.
