Britain's terrorist threat level was raised last night from “substantial” to “severe” - meaning that counter-terrorism agencies believe an attack is “highly likely”.
But at the same time the Government urge us to go about our lives as normal “just be a little more vigilant” they say, vigilant for what, what exactly are we suppose to be looking for, this raising of the the threat level is said to not be based on specific intelligence warning of an attack, but rather a combination of factors, what factors?
Severe is one level away from the highest which is “Critical” that means an attack is imminent, that would suggest that the Authorities know the detail of the plot otherwise how could they know it was happening, so why not put all their energy into stopping it rather than these stupid warnings to the public that are no use other than to cause panic.
My understanding is that this latest scare was prompted by “intelligence” that a hijacking of an Indian airliner in either Mumbai or Delhi was planned with the aim of flying said airliner into a British City, How exactly we as the public are supposed to prepare ourselves or “watch out” for that I’m not sure, surely increased security and vigilance at Mumbai and Delhi airports would pay more dividends.
After the July 7 bombings in London the threat level stayed at severe for 4 years, it was on severe for so long we got bored and the Government reduced it, I suspect this new warning is more likely be a ruse by the politicians to divert out attention from something else that is about to be announced, or Just Gordon trying to scare us into voting Labour at the upcoming election by showing how well he can protect us from all the nasty terrorists out there.
